JOB OUTLOOK
The job outlook for someone in the construction field is excellent. The rate of job growth in this field is 12% with 790,400 new jobs expected in the next five years. The average salary for a general construction worker is $35,750. This class is also a great place to start for someone who wants to specialize in an area such as plumbing. The job outlook in those areas are even higher with plumbers averaging $47,000 a year.
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
The Building Trades program is accredited by the Association of General Contractors (AGC), a formal apprenticeship program. The program combines the on-the-job training with related classroom instruction. Apprenticeship programs usually last 3-4 years. Students will earn one half of a union journey-man’s salary while in the apprenticeship program.
COLLEGE CREDIT
Students can currently receive six hours of free dual credit from State Fair Community College. Articulated credit is also available from SFCC and Ozark Technical College.
