Health Occupations

HO1 Students will learn about a wide range of careers available in health services. Students will develop skills necessary to become a health care professional. Skills learned in Health Occupations include basic life support, medical terminology, patient care procedures, anatomy and physiology, and how to meet the physical and emotional needs of clients and families. Students can receive Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification during the class. They also receive life support, first aid, and dental varnish certification.

HANDS-ON LEARNING

Students in Health Occupations experience hands-on learning with over 100 hours of clinicals at the Technical School and at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital. Students receive valuable insight with rotations in areas such as the birthing center, ER, surgery, pharmacy, and lab. Students also work at health clinics at area school districts.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
Employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 18 percent over the next 10 years, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 2.4 million new jobs. Healthcare occupations are projected to add more jobs than any of the other occupational groups. Health Occupations begins to prepare students for a wide range of professions. Health professionals have a can expect to earn good wages. For example, LPNs have an average salary of $45,000, RNs around $70,000, dentists, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners earn over $100,000 on average, and physicians over $200,000.
